After the 1.20.5 release, I cannot go into my friend's world through LAN. I can see his world and try to connect to it, but it'll give me the error message getsockopt. When I create a LAN world and try to get my friend to join it, he can't even see the world in his list. I've sent a picture of what the error page looks like. Does anyone know how to fix my Minecraft?
samething with me, experienced it yesterday first time. After several other tries I deactivated Windows defender and it worked. But today this work around does`t help...
I am having the same error code when I try to join my daughter in a LAN game. I get a "Failed to Connect...Connection Timed Out: getsockopt" every time I try to join.
I have tried:
ipconfig release/flushdns/renew
restarting Minecraft
restarting PC
ensuring java is allowed through firewall
turning firewall off
logging off and into Minecraft Launcher
It worked fine before the last update. Does anyone have anything that may help?
Just had this same issue! Thank god I found this post! Turning off the firewall(windows defender) for public network did the trick. I think it's the hosting computer that you have to turn it off for.
Add the private check box on the javaw.exe item in the list.
I did on both computers.
The strange thing is... That shutting windows firewall on both didn't help.
That change must have trigger something more.
This worked for me as well. Allowed all of the javaw.exe entries in the firewall for both public and private networks. I did this on both but it was fixed when I added these entries to the host computer.

Same exact thing happening to me
Same here !
Bonjour,

i added an expectation to the windows defender and it worked,
I have the same issue. I've tried disabling the firewall completely and that didn't work. It doesn't seem to be a firewall issue.
I am in the same boat
Same here
If anyone figures it out please tell how in this chat.
I can't join any Minecraft servers
Same issue.
I turn off both PC fire wall
I do see the game in the multiplayer screen
when trying to connect I get
Connection time out getsockopt
I should add that with window defender on I don't even see the game
Well... I manage to fix it like this.

Guess we'll be waiting untit 1.20.6 then
Hey Amirv, I tried your fix but I'm still facing the issue. Can I confirm that the javaw.exe is the JDK 22 version needed to run the new server.jar?
Huh. That app doesn't appear to me at all.
I have this same problem but its happening with Hypixel.

Had the same exact thing, I found the solution, you gotta go to the hosts computer and go to windows defender firewall and set public to java.exe.
