I have a strange bug in my sugar cane farm, and I was wondering if anyone here might have an idea on how to fix it. (Or at least why it happens!)
I have constructed a sugar cane farm that currently produces about 50-70 sugar cane per day. It has 6 24-plant cells. Of these 6 cells, only 3 are working properly. The other 3 cells leave about all the sugar cane drops lying uncollected on the ground. What I want to do is make the farm collect that extra sugar cane. It should double the overall production.
In this screenshot I am standing on the north side of the farm:
Here is the interior:
Each of the wooden doors in this image leads to one cell.
Here are two cells. There is a glass barrier in between.
Here is the hopper minecart track that runs below each sugar cane plant.
So essentially, how it works, is that the cells are built back-to-back. A single redstone line runs up the middle between the two cells and powers the pistons in both cells. The pistons on the north side of the redstone line break a row of sugar cane on the north, and the pistons on the south side break a row of sugar cane on the south. There is a glass wall up against the sugar cane, so it is trapped in the cell. Then a hopper minecart below the sugar cane picks up all the drops.
The 3 cells where the piston is facing SOUTH work perfectly, with 100% efficiency. After a harvest, if I run through there, I pick up no wasted sugar cane.
The 3 cells where the piston is facing NORTH do not work. After a harvest, all the sugar cane lays on the ground as item drops. The minecart rarely picks up more than 1 or 2 items.
I have tried to figure out what is wrong. My first guess was that I messed up with the hopper minecart placement. However, if I THROW items on the ground in those cells, the minecart will pick them up! So the minecart must be positioned properly.
At this point, my best guess is that the problem has something to do with the direction the pistons are facing. But I don't understand why the piston facing would affect the minecart pickup.
I would really appreciate any information that you guys could provide. Ultimately, I'm probably not going to flip around the cells, because the building is meant to be viewed from the north side so I want the sugar cane there for looks. And it is still a pretty useful farm.
If it's helpful at all, I'm playing on a multiplayer server that's running on my home computer.
Thanks in advance for anyone who has any idea what is going on!
Hopper minecarts have trouble picking up items on the edges of blocks above them. Here's a method you might try for running your hopper minecarts right through the sugar cane:

I tested me self its a wrong direction thing thats why minecart with hopper does not pick up
