While I do like the concept of providing armadillo scutes with more uses, I think the fireproof property of netherite is meant to be unique and exclusive to netherite gear only, even if dying in lava and losing all your diamond gear is a pain. As for other valuable items, you should understand that bringing them with you on an expedition where you could die in lava is always a risky choice.

Considering lava only generates at the bottom of the Overworld and in the Nether, there are many ways to prevent item loss by avoiding these areas, being more cautious, playing on Peaceful, playing in Creative, using Fire Resist potions or Enchantments or any number of other ways.
Besides that, Cacti destroys all items, including Netherite gear. Creepers explode. Anvils destroy items when dropped on them. Items simply despawn if left on the ground for 5 minutes. You can't safeguard against every method of destruction.
Removing risk from anything, takes away all effort in playing. Without risk, there's no sense of accomplishment for doing anything, or obtaining rare items. It dulls the game down to the easiest form it could take.

Using the ignore feature here is kinda weird.
