Beacons are a great block, however I feel like they're lacking a little bit. So what I think can be done is
1. Make it so that the gem/ingot increases the range of the beacon. For example, iron can make the beacon have a radius of about 20 blocks, and netherite can go all the way up to a hundred. These numbers can be tweaked.
2. Since a beacon requires 164 blocks to fully activate, I'd add a more indepth system for it. Instead of the beacon having the no differences between a netherite and an iron one, I'd say it would be better to have it so if the beacon has at least 64 diamond blocks (more or less), it grants access to level 3 effects, level two for regeneration, but as a result the radius of the beacon is a tad bit smaller, and if netherite blocks are used, to say 10 (more or less), in addition to the diamond blocks, it gives access to level 4 effects. A new ui could be used in the place of this, maybe like a page two for 'Beacon level', where you have the first page be for activating the beacon, and the second page for viewing the level of the beacon. I think this is good because it gives more of a challenge for a great reward.

1. Beacon area is already at (I think) 113x113 area of effect, so using netherite for the numbers listed would indeed have to be buffed a fair amount to make it better.
2. Even getting 10 Netherite blocks, is no small feat. If my math is right, that's 90 ingots, which amounts to 360 Ancient debris. Quite a bit of mining to get.
Too much of a challenge, and people are going to want something easier to get, even as an inbetween to getting a beacon. Not to mention, it's already a bit of a challenge to not only get 3 wither skulls, at a 7.5% drop chance with looting 3, AND beating the Wither (which people want buffed on Java to match how hard it is on Bedrock), just seems like something not worth doing. Just my opinion.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on you. Fool me three times, hold up, rewind, That's not even possible.
1. I wasn't entirely sure on the beacon range so I just thought maybe iron could have it be slightly worse, gold be the same, diamonds be a lil bit more and netherite being buffed a good bit
2. To be fair I'm not insisting they nerf beacons in that aspect. It could be that the full iron or gold beacon just act like a regular beacon with no changes, still giving level 2 effects. I just think the diamond and netherite upgrades should be given to those who are willing to work for it, although maybe 10 netherite blocks was overkill. I wasn't sure on how to exactly balance it

Don't get me wrong, the Beacon probably does need some form of update. It's been around for awhile now. It's just trying to find the right balance to it. Having the resource used to activate it, affecting some aspect might be a good start, if you disallow Netherite as the highest need. Having a bigger AoE would be a good thing was my point. More effects would be a good thing too. Something that's been around for awhile, and basically accepted as is, is hard to update.
This all, also, seems to be only considering a standard Beacon structure, and not the 6 Beacon structures that can be made (6 Beacon blocks on a pyramid structure).

Using the ignore feature here is kinda weird.
