Whats happening with the stacking of 24w12a? please mojang if you see this (probably not) please change the stacking system back to 64 maximum not 99 i think that it a kinda a little takes away the nostalgia and what minecraft really is.
This only seems to apply to commands and will have no impact on normal gameplay, and you've always been able to make overstacked items (I even had to fix a duplication glitch when I made music discs legitimately stackable to 64 in a mod, which was nevertheless considered a valid bug because you could obtain stacks of more than one with commands. Interestingly, while the bug report refers to 24w12a it also occurs in much older versions, such as 1.6.4, which Mojang claimed to have originally fixed in 1.8, I'm guessing by disallowing /give to give overstacked items but other commands still work):
Added max_stack_size.
Controls the maximum stacking size of this item
Format: integer between 1 and 99
Example: max_stack_size=4
Has an implicit default value according to the item type (usually 64 but can also be 16 and 1)
Besides, a very early version of the game had a max stack size of 999(!), an old post (no source) claimed it was also 99 at some point:
The player spawns with more items when creating a new world: 999 glass blocks, 999 planks, 999 torches, 999 pairs of flint and steel, 999 diamond shovels, 999 diamond pickaxes, 999 lava source blocks, and 999 water source blocks.
Because item counts use 1 byte, which allows a value between 0-255. This was originally the only restriction, it was reduced to 99 just because, then Notch decided this was still too much, and reduced it to 64 just because.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
nostalgia is one of the most useless things I ever saw, its literally just a effect of a miserable person who is stuck in the pass LOL
They can't face the future nor reality, what a coward.
