Long time player here. I was slow to move on from 1.12.2 as I loved Forestry, IC2, Buildcraft. Eventually I moved up to 1.16.5 when Forestry caught up to it. Then 1.18 came along, and once I saw what Terralith and new world-gen could do, I couldn't go back. That was early 2023 I think. But Minecraft was (and sort of still is) in a weird transitional state. I think the Sodium / Fabric route is the future. Forge not so much. But many of my staple mods haven't (still haven't) transferred, and I simply stopped playing for months. Fast forward to now, and Thermal finally has completed an update for Thermal Dynamics, making a 1.18.2 play through a reality, and gives me a chance to explore some other new kids on the block, like Create, and a few Magic mods like Mana & Arti, so on, and so forth. And using Rubidium / Oculus over Optifine...I'm happy enough, with the Forge / Fabric transition fiasco, for now.
But ---
I need a good new resource pack. I'm looking for suggestions. My go to for years has been LB Photo Realism, and FaithfulHD. For me, 256x is the sweet spot. 512x is good too, sometimes. I recently tried all of the following:
Coven (not bad)
Luna HD (not bad)
Legendary (does a lot of things right, and leaves a lot to desire still)
Patrix (not bad, a bit too busy)
So far, LB Photo Realism is still beating out some of the premium patreon packs I've bought. Part of that is preference, and part of it is just block coverage.
Are there any HD realistic / slightly grim dark (but not too dark) fantasy-esque packs out there that also handle the UI and hotbar / item rendering? It seems a pack will often have some great textures, and will leave out something simple like a torch, or leave the ui looking like it's 1990.
I find myself throwing in PureBDcraft underneath a pack just so I can stand looking at the UI, but thematically it just doesn't fit. Thanks for any suggestions.
