Creepers are my worst enemy in Minecraft? No, that's Skeletons.
Being a devout 7th Day Chickenist I rename all my armor and tools accordingly - High Chicken Priest Headdress, Chestplate of Unbreakable Feathers, Beakbreaker, Chicken Scratcher, Eggcellent Leggings of Swiftness, Chicken Talons, Bow of Flightless Doom, Barnyard Massacre Blade, Hoe of Infinite Peckings, and so on.
I'm wondering if people are really still renaming their gear in 1.8 as renaming instead of fixing the repair costs now actually increases it, decreasing usable lifetime by 1/7 (that is, you have at most six repairs, including any other anvil operations, to perform, so maximum lifetime is 7 times that of a single tool). IMO, it isn't worth naming something that will have to be replaced in a few days (I myself can wear out an entire Efficiency V, Unbreaking III diamond pickaxe in a single play session; luckily, I still play in 1.6.4 so I've been able to mine half a million blocks and counting with the same pickaxe ("Mining Pickaxe"); similarly, my Sharpness V, Knockback II, Unbreaking III "Monster Slayer" has killed nearly 50,000 mobs so far; by comparison, the most uses you could get in 1.8 is about 43,700 and only if you repair it six times as combining/upgrading enchantments will take away up to 6,248 uses each time).
Also, a (not so) fun fact about anvil costs in 1.8: Got two Unbreaking II books and want to use them on armor to make it last longer? Well, you'll get charged for two workings, first combining them, then putting it on the armor - being able to repair it only four times instead of six - and since Unbreaking III only increases armor lifetime by 43% (4/6 x 1.43 = 0.95) you basically just wasted XP and books (it is still practical to do this for tools but equivalent to downgrading Unbreaking by a level; you might as well just use the Unbreaking II books individually on two items) - so it is a very good thing they added Unbreaking as a direct enchantment for armor and weapons in 1.7, no doubt in preparation for the changes to repairing in 1.8.
That said, I have another diamond pickaxe with Efficiency V, Silk Touch I, Unbreaking III named "Ender Pickaxe" which would last practically forever in 1.8 since I only use it to mine Ender chests and the occasional emerald ore; I've never repaired it yet and it still has 90% durability left with an average of several uses per day. I've also previously used an Efficiency V, Fortune III, Unbreaking III pickaxe named "Super Pickaxe" for general purpose mining while caving (I stopped using it because when you mine 3,000+ ores per play session, including 2,000+ coal, it is just silly to use Fortune, plus I get plenty of diamonds anyway; I now use the pickaxe, renamed to "Potato Harvester", to harvest potatoes). For armor I just removed the space in the default name ("DiamondChestplate") because you never see the name in regular use anyway, though I named my Feather Falling IV boots "Fall Boots".

I have an axe with Efficiency IV and Sharpness V, I call it "Survivalists Axe"
Haven't gotten around to naming other stuff, fairly new here.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
So basically, I'm stupid.
