Hey guys, I just wanted to drop in and post a personal build I have been chipping away at in my spare time for the last year or two. Not sure how or why but I just started building the West Edmonton Mall starting with the Phase 3 / 4 end of the mall. If your familiar with it, it is the end with the ship, theatre water park. Scale is to minecraft character size but bumped up a bit to allow for thickness of minecraft blocks in walls, floors and such, I have my own system for measuring out and translating/scale conversion to keep the layout accurate. I am currently running no mods aside from a shader pack and a macro for fast clicking. Fill in 1.8 is my new best friend and has moved along floor and ceiling construction a lot.
Here is a link to my flickr account, I will add and update shortly with some of the latest work. Unfortunately the shader I was using is not updated yet for 1.8 so the latest pics are not as pretty as they could be
Had to comment on this amazing build ! wow ! Ive been to West Ed countless times you did an awesome job at capturing it ! Im currently working on my mall for my city, Thanks for uploading, definitely gives me some inspiration !
Still plugging away on this odd project, it comes and goes. I can work on it for weeks or months then leave it for months. Recently did a large chunk pushing to the ice palace and galaxyland which are both laid out and getting some detail.
Yes no mods used at all, the only assists I use are the fill command and a fast click macro on my mouse.
I like the idea of the resource pack but have my hands full just doing layout, I have created scale reference maps of the mall, each block equals 1 meter and the mall is accurate to this scale. Impressively so. Would love to do the surrounding area, but I think the scale of this project alone may have been lost on the person who suggested that. Especially when you consider the interior is detailed, accurate which includes private areas I have researched.
I could help with textures a bit if you'd like! Depends - are you still running 1.8? Just to make sure 👌 It looks amazing so far!
And yeah, building the surrounding area is just too much. Maybe the parking lots but after that...Edmonton is just such a large city that it would take you a solid year of work to even get close (unless you had a bunch of builders)
edit: even just the chateau lacombe is taking a super long time and i'm not even sure i'm building it to a correct scale ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Have a cake for that great build!
GREAT WORK!!! Keep it up!
Here are some suggestions:
-Create a resource pack to make the mall look more realistic.
-Make the terrain on the outside fit with the wall. Maybe some paths or roads, or even make your own city with the mall in it!
-Use command blocks to make parts of the mall functional. (Maybe the wave pool)
Wait.. so... no worldedit or mcedit or anything? That is amazing!
