Revisiting old seeds is so cool ! Even if strange, with the new biomes on top.
Sadly with this preset, biomes are too messed up, oceans are all hills/mountains and structures have less chance to generate.
But but but! with some fiddling with the settings, I've found that all that is needed to have some interesting and good-looking terrain again is to keep the default settings and just reduce the biome size to 1 or 2. You probably get as many crazy mountains as with the beta terrain and landscapes are very varied, with beautiful lakes, rivers and biomes' features are respected.
Here's the "Glacier" seed with biome size 2 (after spawning, go to world origin with the command "/tp 0 75 0")
And some flying through biome size 1 of Glacier:

While I applaud you on your excellent work I think I would find myself playing Beta itself, rather than using these settings as it's not quite the same and look at how green Beta is comparatively...so green...
Is there somewhere I can copy/paste the preset data, or do I have to enter it manually every time?
You don't have to enter it manually. In the Customize menu there is a button that says 'Presets'. Just select the default data and replace it with the custom data.
I used this preset in 1.10.2 with a Seed I have from a world that was created in Beta 1.4, but it looks very different yet similar. The seed I used was 6119853188557583783. Here are some pics: http://imgur.com/a/8EsyQ The lower ones are from the original version.

I"ve heard seeds change version to version, which MC versions are these compatible with?
I've got to say almost all these screenshots gave me that beta minecraft inspiration "I've just GOTTA build a base there!" That's what minecraft terrain should be, IMO.

I'm getting this problem where it seems the string is too long to fit in the textbox that Minecraft gives you in the custom presets menu
All I get in is: {"coordinateScale":684.412,"heightScale":684.412,"lowerLimitScale":512.000,"upperLimitScale":512.000,"depthNoiseScaleX":200.000,"depthNoiseScaleZ":200.000,"depthNoiseScaleExponent":0.5,"mainNoiseScaleX":80.0,"mainNoiseScaleY":160.0,"mainNoiseScaleZ":80.0,"baseSize":8.5,"stretchY":12.0,"biomeDepthWeight":0.0,"biomeDepthOffset":0.370,"biomeScaleWeight":0.0,"biomeScaleOffset":0.5,"seaLevel":64,"useCaves":true,"useDungeons":true,"dungeonChance":8,"useStrongholds":true,"useVillages":true,"useMineShafts":true,"useTemples":true,"useRavines":true,"useWaterLakes":true,"waterLakeChance":4,"useLavaLakes":true,"lavaLakeChance":80,"useLavaOceans":false,"fixedBiome":-1,"biomeSize":2,"riverSize":5,"dirtSize":33,"dirtCount":20,"dirtMinHeight":0,"dirtMaxHeight":128,"gravelSize":33,"gravelCount":10,"gravelMinHeight":0,"gravelMaxHeight":128,"graniteSize":33,"graniteCount":10,"graniteMinHeight":0,"graniteMaxHeight":80,"dioriteSize":33,"dioriteCount":10,"dioriteMinHeight":0,"dioriteMaxHeight":80,"andesiteSize":33,"andesiteCount":10,"andesiteMinHeight":0,"andesiteMaxHeight":80,"coalSize":17,"coalCount":20,"coalMinHeight":0,"coalMaxHeight":128,"ironSize":9,"ironCount":20,"ironMinHeight":0,"ironMaxHeight":64,"goldSize":9,"goldCount":2
It cuts off half way trough the 4 things for gold gen, If I hit the "Use Preset" button it just sets it back to the default Superflat.
I've tried this in 1.11 and the latest snapshot 16w50a and it seems to work for anyone in using them, I just can't get enough text in for whatever reason.
EDIT: Scratch that I haven't played Minecraft in a while and was completely oblivious to the fact that they had added a new world type after "AMPLIFIED" called "Customized" that lets you mess with sliders and stuff.
For anyone else who didn't know about the world type here are some screenshots
Has anyone tested this with the 404 seed? I started right as Beta 1.8 came out so being able to try out an old challenge like that would be fun.
I don't think it would ever be possible to generate the exact same terrain without modifying the game code itself, because the generator noise functions have been changed (correct me if I'm wrong). In other words, I think that using these settings it's possible to recreate as close as possible the style of the beta versions, but not the terrain layout itself unfortunately...
Update: What 404 looks like now, using the neoBeta presets (in release 1.11.2), the glowstone is my spawn point.
PS: I'm using the Nostalgia-Craft Alpha resource pack, it brings back good old Alpha sounds and textures ^.^

I think I can say that I one upped you on beta terrain generation. I have a slightly different preset that does pretty much the same thing. The difference is it doesn't mess up the biomes. I tried it with glacier, a lot of the terrain is very similar. Here's the preset.
Having played a world with this I really like it. Makes me wish we could also duplicate the old caves, those labyrinths were crazy.
I think the only thing I'd change is moving granite and the other stone variants below surface level. Though I think I can manually change the preset after loading it to change that, correct?
That's so cool

This is simply amazing!
This sort of reminds me of how the Pocket Edition used to look back when it first came out.

This world generation would work great with the nostalgia craft beta resource pack.

I tried those settings and got this. Is this beta terrain?
It really looks like it.
This is amazing! Is there a way to replicate Minecraft 1.2.5 terrain in 1.11.2 too?
Has anyone tested this with the 404 seed? I started right as Beta 1.8 came out so being able to try out an old challenge like that would be fun.

That's a shame. Thanks for testing it anyway. The old terrain will be enough to satisfy me.
Use Ctrl+V.
So how exactly did you find out what numbers to use?
